Compensation: $67,000 - $87,978 (commensurate with experience)

Primary Function & Position Overview

As an educator at Public Prep Academies we encourage our students to build independence as learners. We fully support the development of our educators to broaden their interpretation of culturally and linguistically diverse students’ learning behaviors. The Middle School Humanities Teacher will design and deliver instruction that supports students in thinking deeply and expressing their views clearly through Humanities content. 

The Middle School Humanities Teachers will also establish families as partners through annual student home visits, participation in regular school events, and through providing frequent communications about curriculum, academic progress, and students’ character development. They work closely with the School Leadership Team and Student and Family Affairs Team. 

The Middle School Humanities Teacher may be assigned to teach English, History, or a combination of Humanities content areas including interventions. Teaching assignments are at the discretion of the Principal, Assistant Principal and/or Academic Dean.
 

Key Responsibilities

Instruction and Preparation:

  • Address the learning needs of all students, creating independent learning opportunities.
  • Plan and deliver cognitively engaging lessons, integrating social-emotional practices.
  • Use data to drive decision-making and improve student outcomes.
  • Demonstrate a passion for learning, a growth mindset, and a love for reading.

Relationship Building and Student Support:

  • Foster a safe and inclusive environment for all stakeholders.
  • Utilize restorative justice principles to manage conflicts and redirect behavior.
  • Celebrate student progress and maintain high standards for effort and achievement.

Family and Community Engagement:

  • Build trust and care with families through regular communication.
  • Encourage authentic family participation in classroom activities and learning opportunities.
  • Provide families with tools to support student learning at home.

Professional Responsibilities:

  • Reflect on feedback and continuously improve teaching practices.
  • Participate in professional development, mentorship, and coaching cycles.
  • Maintain accurate records for grading, progress monitoring, and communication.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and contribute to a professional learning community.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • An M.A., Ed.M, or master’s degree in English, History, or a relevant content area (preferred).
  • New York State Certification for the relevant grades and content area (or process toward reciprocity).
  • At least 2 years of demonstrated success as a full-time middle school teacher.
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching, including continuous learning and data analysis.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and collaborative skills.
  • A commitment to single-sex education and a growth mindset.
